California State PTA Convention

The annual California State PTA Convention is held for the transaction of certain organization business and for the instruction, information, and inspiration of the PTA members.

The convention purposes are to:

  • Conduct the annual business of the California State PTA
  • Train, inform, and inspire PTA leadership
  • Provide delegates the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with other delegates from throughout the state.

The California State PTA strongly encourages its units, councils, and PTA districts to budget for and send as many delegates as entitled (between 1 and 5, based on membership) to each annual convention. Convention is an authorized expense to cover registration, housing, meal allowance, and transportation for each delegate. Convention expenses should be a line item in the PTA district, council, unit annual budgets. Planning for convention and providing an opportunity for delegates to attend is a membership priority.

National PTA Convention

Each year in June, thousands of PTA members gather in one place to raise their voices for children at National PTA’s Annual Convention and Exhibition. Members who attend the convention not only vote on the business of the organization, but they attend workshops and exhibits in order to bring back best practices and ideas to implement in their school, community, and PTA.

National PTA invites nationally renowned speakers, education policy experts, and workshop presenters to bring insights and presentations on the latest research, trends, and hot topics affecting the education, health, and welfare of children. The three-day event allows attendees to choose from more than 60 workshops, visit more than 200 exhibits, and participate in general sessions to vote on critical national resolutions, nominations to the national board and its committees, and changes to the bylaws of the association. You’ll also hear from PTA leaders about ongoing initiatives and new projects, and join delegates as they vote on the election of new officers and committee members.

National PTA held its first annual meeting in 1897 in Washington, DC. Today, the annual convention travels to a different city each year, allowing members from different regions of the country to take advantage of the national event and experience..
